If you've been following my blog for awhile now, you've obviously noticed that I go through a lot of lemons. I use them in many of my recipes; desserts, sauces, cheeses, mains, etc. They pack a flavour punch that you can't beat.
They're also a fantastic degreaser. I save all of my lemon rinds after juicing them. They go into a large ziploc bag in my fridge until I need them at a later date. For example, last week, I dumped them all into my bathtub, filled it with hot water, and let it soak for a few hours. Drained the tub, wiped it down, et voila! Effortless degreasing.
Because I eat such a clean diet, I don't use detergent to clean my dishes; hot running water and a cloth are enough to do the trick. However, when I make recipes that call for oils (olive, coconut) or agave nectar, my dishes can be a little greasier to clean. Fill the sink with hot water, throw in rinds from 2-3 lemons, and let 'em soak for 10 minutes. The grease literally melts off my dishes, and I don't need to put in any effort to clean them. AWESOME!
Lemons are a totally natural cleanser; good for you, good for the planet. You can use lemons to degrease counters, sinks, etc. Get creative! Use your lemon ;)
P.S. I used up a lot of lemons for a recipe being posted tomorrow! I promise you will love it!!
